2005 - 2006 Competition Season
A Strong Beginning
The 2005-2006 robot season was an awkward one for the NERDS, due mostly to the fact that no one on the team had any robot building experience whatsoever. While some students struggled to get community support and corporate funding for the new venture, others worked hard to grasp the basic concepts of robot construction. Mini club robot competitions that used VEX parts allowed for some experience before the real game: the First Robotics Competition.
Somehow the team managed to pull off a very successful season, and before the school year had ended the NERDS had traveled to three different states and picked up a total of three trophies. It was definitely the start of something big, and the enthusiasm gained by the students as well as the community gave the club momentum for future years. While no real outreach was done by the team during this year, a solid base was set up for the ‘technology bug’ to spread.
