FIRST - For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology
FIRST is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting science, technology, and engineering to the youth of today through annual robotics competitions. Founded by inventor Dean Kamen, FIRST takes the future into perspective by targeting the present:
"To create a world where science and technology are celebrated... where young people dream of becoming science and technology heroes"
The FIRST community follows the philosophy of Gracious Professionalism, first coined by co-founder Woodie Flowers. Gracious professionalism is doing what is right, on or off the field, when there is no apparent gain. Within the last decade, FIRST has sprung from an unknown organization to a thriving community of students, parents, mentors, and engineers.
