The NERDS are slowly reaching their goal for funds to travel to Atlanta, but more is still needed! We have set a minimum donation amount for each student at $400 for the trip, which should cover their airline tickets. The rest is being furiously fundraised through our supportive community and generous individuals.
So far, we have managed to raise over $17,000, thanks mostly to the amazing support from parents, the community, and our awesome sponsors! AFCEA presented the team with a nice (BIG) $5000 check at our recent parent meeting, followed closely by a $1500 donation from the Mesquite Tree on Hwy 92! ITEA has also just presented the team with $1000 to support us on our trip to Atlanta! Thank you!
Another continuing source of funds is the Arizona Tax Credit system, which has contributed a substantial margin to our funds. Individual Arizona taxpayers can donate up to $200 to the team that they can write off on their taxes, and married couples can donate up to $400! CLICK HERE to download the latest Tax Credit form.
Outback Steakhouse has set up a very generous fundraising opportunity for the team on Wednesday, April 8th. They will be hosting lunch from 11:00am 'til 12:30pm at their restaurant at the Fry and Hwy 92 intersection; tickets are being sold through NERDS students. Each ticket costs $20, and the team will receive 75% of the sales! Tickets will also be available at the door, but seating is limited. Thank you, Outback, for this wonderful opportunity to support our team!
The team will be meeting this Wednesday, April 1st, to finalize fundraising plans and lay down the current situation on the trip. We are planning on leaving Tuesday, April 14th, from Phoenix on Delta Airlines and returning on Sunday, April 19th. The team will be staying at the Westin Peachtree (see flight and hotel information here); the competition will be held in the Georgia Dome Thursday through Saturday night. Mrs. Wallace has graciously offered to drive to the competition, and will be taking any luggage or tools if any team members want (see this post for more information).
Overall, everything is going as planned money-wise, and we should definitely be waiting anxiously in Atlanta for the competition to being on the 16th. See you there!
