Well, we did it! Atlanta was a blast; the team has fun meeting a bunch of other teams nation-wide and playing against the best of the best. The NERDS were in the Newton Division (one of 4 that the 350 teams are split into) and seeded 17th of 88, making it to the quarterfinals in some of the most heated matches we've ever played. We were paired up with 365 (MOE), a distinquished eastern team who won the national Chairman's Award in 2007, and 2771 (Code Red Robotics), a very successful rookie team who was actually the alliance captain. Our alliance lost to 1507, 121, and 177, who ended up winning on Newton and representing the division on Einstein, the final division.
In our "spare" time in Atlanta, we visited the Coca-Cola Museum, checked out the Aquarium, had an exciting time at the FIRST Finale (complete with fireworks!), and hang out with our new friends on team 2791 from New York.
The experience was phenominal, and we couldn't have done it without the support of the community and our awesome sponsors. So for that,
THANK YOU!!
And to show our gratitude, we will be having a banquet on May 13th, 2009 (next Wednesday) from 6pm to 8pm in the cafeteria. A free spaghetti dinner will be served with refreshments and desserts. We'll spend time explaining the club, allowing the officers to talk about their experiences and hand out awards, and throw in a live demonstration of Major Tom in the mix somewhere. New officers will also be announced, and student awards and certificates will be handed out.
If you have any questions about the banquet or our experience in Atlanta, feel free to email us at: nerds[at]project1726[dot]org
T-T-That's all, folks!
