Initial Meeting, 2008

Welcome to all of the new members of the club! The returning members, parents, and sponsors would all like to thank you for attending the first meeting of the year, we hope we left an impression!

So, recap of the meeting: basically, Sean Topping, club President, contributed most of his time explaining the ins-and-outs of the club and competitions. Needless to say, we covered much more this year than any previous years, and for good reason: we had over 30 new members present.

Team 1726 - the Nifty Engineering Robotics Design Squad

Team 1726, the Nifty Engineering Robotics Design Squad (NERDS) has been spreading technology and engineering to the youth of today through robotics-oriented activities. By hosting robotics camps for middle-school students, teaching our ideals to the general public, and showing off our work at regional, national, and international level competitions, we have begun the hard work of capturing the public's eye and steering its motive toward working for a better future.

We compete in programs sponsored by FIRST, an acronym meaning For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology. These annual events require weeks of strenuous mental and physical labor; the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) starts on the first week of January and ends 6 weeks later. Meeting for over 40 hours a week, we put in more than 5000 man-hours per build season! The team works with experienced engineers for a real-world view on science and engineering. With support from the community, the NERDS can accomplish whatever is thrown our way!
